At work (bit of free time), on the forum, when I saw Macarena posting....then I got a P.M.....down your neck of the woods in Ali-D, transiting through to Oman

Quickly P.Ming back....What? Al-Udeid AFB?? so am I`...... the crazy fella had logged off.
Turns out he thought I was more Afghanistan way, when he was sat in the welfare cabin posting where I go every night to MSN Kate.

After a few phone calls to the Americans - never easy!!!!, I managed to track him down for a quick chat before he continues his journey.

In Oman for the Courtenay RR, here for PVS, thought Id never see another member (excluding my buddy Neil)...... so here it is, my firstvery` mini meet... minus cars....... lol

Cheeky bugger.....thats the transit accomodation (tents)...about 48 man in bunks. Im in a double, TV, DVD player, aircon & fridge..... 😃

What do you mean 1st class treatment. :shock:
The poor lad spent ages tracking me down in the place and then he could'nt use the flash as it would have blinded everybody and burnt out the camera with the reflection that would have come off my head.
Also it is definately not 1st class, i woke up during the night and it was 36'c in the tent. (and no drakey was'nt in there as well......Perverts!!!!!!!!!!!!!), the aircon had gone tits up much like my vectra's really. :cry:
If you are trying to get your head's around the heat think of it like this, climb into an industrial fan oven and turn it on at 55'-60'c. sit in there for several hours and don't forget to turn on the unfeasibly bright halogen spotlight in your face. what..
Then you will get the idea of what the conditions are like. The food was good because Uncle Sam was providing it and after all they won the Gulf War all by themselves so they are always the best and always right every time (Bullsh*t) rofl..
Well enough of me you slack asses let's get posting and keep us two occupied. I'm no longer in Ali-D but in Seeb in Oman now so you will have your work cut out.
Take it easy all of you, i know i will be sweating my nuts off down here (48'c in the shade today).....Niccccceeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Do they have Challenger 2 in oman still? I used to machine the gunners site mount on those. I also used to manufacture the seats too.

I visited Vickers Defence in Leeds many years ago to see the production line. It was fekkin huge!! I saw raw material to finished item driven out the door at the other end, it was awesome. The tracks have to be fitted with special rubber pads when the tanks go out on the local roads so as to stop them from ripping up the tarmac. pmsl..

As for cool kit, back in my youth as an apprentice, the former British Aerospace now Airbus in Filton had the contract to refurb the American F1-11. I couldn't believe that they first came into service in 1967. We used to strip them down, wings, fuel tanks, hydraulics, undercarriage you name it, it was replaced. I had some good times working on those. Don't know where they all are now??

Thats the job Im craving for, out of the Mob and civvy Avionics maintenance would be great for me. British Aerospace have a huge contract running in CMU (combined maintenance unit) at RAF Marham.... as soon as I return I`m going to try and transfer across with the hope of getting employed by them.
.........would mean working for a living tho ?????!!!!!!

As for the F1-11s, havent seen or heard about them in ages, used to buzz the skys back when I lived in Banbury (Oxon), really large jets close up.

Hello all,
Finally made it to a computer after work (11pm over here) to see how all you are doing.
The F111 are as far as i know still operated by the american reserve airforce whilst i remember that the Austrailian air force still used them but were having snags due to them getting near the end of there design/fatigue life. Wether they bought some off the americans that were in deep storage in the desert i am not sure but i think that they still operate this type of aircraft.
I have not seen any challengers down here but poss the Omanies may have bought a few of them. i have seen several,
'Static display Nimrods' , down here though whilst we all work our tit's off on the 820Sqn Merlins.
We always seem to be busy but only see the Raf lads in the dinner hall or reading newspapers...........strange...maybe Drakey can show me the light as to where i went wrong :lol:
Hopefully tomorrow i will get the afternoon of and be able to unpack my bags and go out to see the sights though..fingers crossed.
Sorry if my spelling is not to great but i am ball bagged at the mo and going to my scratcher(bed) now.
Got to go now as am up at 5:45am for work....deep joy.. 🙁

5:45am Boy am I in the right job, may get up aroung 10, grab some food, go in to work & check when the jets are down....hopefully they`ll return serviceable as I need to sort my messed up tan out.
