got the engine in today & got it running , couple of questions though .
what is the correct grade of oil for this engine , we were told 0w 30 but that seems too thin to me .
what could cause issues with oil pressure , the person we bought the engine from assured us that the engine was fine before it was removed from the vectra & i have no reason to doubt him in any way .
the engine had been completely drained of oil prior to being removed from the vectra & was fitted with a new filter & fresh oil when fitted to the astra.
the engine started straight up but sounded horrible & seemed to be rattling from the chain & tappets , we tried gently easing the revs up a bit to circulate the oil & the oil light went out @ 2000 rpm , but still it rattled .
i then came up with a theory & i could be miles off the mark here , but i thought that if the engine had been stood with no oil in it & then been laid over while transporting it that the oil pump might need priming so i removed the cap from the oil filter housing & put the filter back in to stop the oil draining away , i then filled the oil filter with oil a couple of times , all in the hope that it might travel back along the oil gallery & prime the pump .
then re fitted the filter & the engine seemed to quieten down to sound rather sweet , but still the oil light comes on below 2000 rpm , i also fitted the oil pressure switch from the old engine & it is still the same , i am now a bit puzzled by it all as this is the first i have had to do with a z22se.
