It depends. You can leave the camera on Auto, and it will do most of the settings itself. Those above were shot in Aperture mode, where you select how Open the aperture is.
These are the settings I had for the picture of the badge:
Exposure: 0.002 sec (1/500)
Aperture: f/3.5
Focal Length: 18 mm
The Aperture of f3.5 is wide open, so doesn't need a lot of light to expose the picture, and it means you have a very shallow depth of field, so the subject is in focus, blurring the background.
