Hello everyone, im new here, been sent over by a very helpful guy on vvoc.

I have a vectra 2.2 150sri, its been using quite a bit of oil lately (but has been pointed out to me it im using an average amount). Other than that its been running ok. Today I drove to Newport only about 15 miles from me, all was well. Went off did my shopping, but when I got back in the car, the EML stayed on. I've had the car nearly 2 years and thats never happened before. Anyway.. I drove home slowly, where on someone's advice I phoned the RAC out. The man put it on the comp thing, and gave me this report....

Vehicle has EML on P0378 timing reference high resolution signal 3 intermittion/ erratic pulse. And slight engine rattle. Advice DO NOT USE. Must be towed to garage.

First of all, does anyone know how much its going to cost me to get it fixed, and how long will it take?

This is the second time this has happened to me, only last time, no light came on, the chain slipped the cog and bent the all the valves.

Lol... thanks for your help and advice, I will keep you posted, can you recommend a garage near to me, the RAC will tow it there, but I'd still prefer somewhere local to me. Cheers

I'm 15 miles the other side of npt near chepstow so i'm not sure of any garages near you sorry,If it was just a chain u wanted changing i cud do it for you but havnt got the time to do anything more tbh....

I would follow the rac chaps advice and get the chain inspected, you should have had the new style chain fitted after your first failure, but they may not have changed the oil jet !

As far as I know, the new style chain was fitted after the first failure! it also had a full service after it had all been rebuilt. But, I will folow the RAC mans advice and not move it, at least this time I had some warning before doing total destruction again lol. So all is not lost. Still would like to know roughly how much im looking at for getting it fixed.. any idea's?

Took the RAC report to a local garage this morning, they gonna have a look at it for me, RAC towing it there tuesday morning. So my fingers are well and truly crossed hoping its not gonna cost me loads.

Hope someone up there has finished throwing all this shit at me now... been an EXTREMLY bad week.. car breaking down was just the final straw..

Wellllll............... the RAC came this morning to to tow it to the garage, was a diff man to the first time. I told him what had happened, he started it up.. and said it sounded good, then put a different computer thing on it. more of a laptop type machine, there was no fault found!! and the light had gone off. So he phoned tech support.. told them everything.. then said there is a possible sensor fault, which could have just been a bit of dust! He said there was def NO rattling noise.. and said all was well and it certainly didnt need to be towed in!!

I was that chuffed I could have kissed him! but i didnt lol

If i was you i would still get the chain checked to be on the safe side.

I'm with simon on that one.....Problem is tho...to get the chain checked properly is a strip down..
