Will you keep your 2.2?

Hi All

Just checked out what vehicle tax I will be paying on my 2.2 in the coming years (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=19415), £300 cry.. .

It seems drivers of any car are cash cows for our beloved government but anything over 2l is even more so.

So my question is are you considering getting shot of your 2.2 based on what it is going to cost to tax soon or what level of tax will make you consider getting rid?

The other question is what is this going to do to the values of our cars?

Anybody want to buy a 2.2 Zafira by the way 😃 !

Like you say the price of the 2.2 is rock bottom now anyway so going to keep mine the yearly maintanance cost of mine over the past 4 years has been so low it owes me nothing and if I buy a new car the finance/loan costs would out way what i will be spending out on the car at the moment so up your's MR BROWN!!!!!!!!!!!

Although I got shot of mine as it was riddled with problems, I think the cost of running it on the milage I do would have made me think about changing it anyway.
Looking fwd to next years road tax bill of £90.
Miss the pull of the engine now and then thomy little diesel doesnt quite hit the fun button as well.

Think I'll put 6 months tax on it in June til the end of the year, shove a year on it at the current price then get rid in August next year when the insurance will be due

I'm keeping my vx220, but only taxing it april-september and SORN over winter, that gives me six months for mods 😃

my 2.2 vectra will be replaced by a mini cooper S at some point, both are the same tax bracket, but I'm in no rush to sell my 2.2 veccy 8)

I am prob going to keep the Astra but i keep looking at VXR's and Focus ST's then on a complete opsite Fabia VRS with nice TT alloys and a remap, debadge and get 50+mpg and 190bhp for about 7 -9K.

i was looking at getting a 1.8vvt vectra next but looking at the road tax price its only going to be £40 diffrence mays well keep the 2.2

I've just paid £185 for the years road tax, if i was to get another car it would have to be a BMW 330d or a 135d.

yup the cost is really hurting, but there are 50 others coupes for sale in autotrader which aren't moving. I can only get three grand part ex on mine and I bought it for almost £6k last year including part ex on my little polo. so only alternative is to use it less I guess, doesn't help on the tax though, only the petrol.

Thats the M3 convertable im gonna be getting, been working out finances of late, and thinking of keeping the coupe as a project, and buying the M3 ragtop for everyday.

your probably right, the thing going for em is that they are modded nicely, and not just chucked together chav style, but still only looking at 5-6k. Did fancy a vx220, but the M3 is such an awesome machine and still practical.

we have put our car in an akward catagory to sell them by modding them its hard finding a buyer that has the same taste as us that can afford to insure and run them?

very true mate, didnt really think of that, but if its gonna sell it will sell to someone on aoc or hear or mig etc, some people are lazy and want the cars done for them.

With the amount of time and money put into mine i'll be handing it on in my will I think!! No plans to get rid of mine at all. Love it. Might consider what Vocky is going to do by only taxing for 6 months??
