Got home from work Thursday pulled car up on the front why I backed the wife's car out then started mine back up and the engine sounded very rough like the timing was out and the engine was tappety. I didnt rev it and turned it off after about 15 seconds and rolled it down the drive. I looked under the bonnet and the only thing I noticed was the air con pipe had snapped off, which I have now found is a common problem on this car (Vec B 2.2), so thats another problem...
Anyway when I have listened to the engine properly, the sound is coming from the engine and it does sound very much like a dry chain! If the chain had snapped the engine wouldn't start would it?
The other thing that is worrying me is that Ive looked at the photo's on here and checked and it seems as if my car has had the modified chain work done, do you look if theres slits in the brown nut? if so yes.
Im speaking to the warrnty guy at my local dealership tomorrow but my car is out of warranty at the moment and is due for its 40000 mile service now (it has 41,000 on the clock). The car is 5 years old. I was told by the woman on the service desk that they were only fixing it free of charge upto June of last year, but I have also read here that the part is covered for the first 6 years anyway or for first 60000 miles? Can someone please enlighten me so I dont get ripped off. I have been quoted £680 otherwise for parts and labour!
It is possible my fault is something else but it does not seem to be the water pump bearings, I suppose it could be some kind of oil injector issue?
Any help appreciated.
