It's not really that harsh when you look at the conditions of these 2 tickets:

Motorists caught going well over the limit would receive six points - double the current penalty - and a £100 fine.

You still get the 12 point allocation, you'd just get 6 points for the worse offences, rather than 3.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, it's still shite, just need to be more aware of the area etc if you are going to risk doing those sort of excessive speeds.

To be honest, only go over the limit on motorways and the bypass by me, just not worth it in the streets, too risky with all kids etc..
If the police/goverment spent more time thinking of ways to combat terrorists, murderers, rapists etc as they do with motorists, the world would be a better place.

I know, I can't think of anyone that doesn't have a taco fitted who actually sticks to 70 on the motorway now days.

tbh i work with speed cameras, i get people on the phone to me all day long moaning about 3 points and 60 quid, at the end of the day u hit a kid at 35+ u have more chance of killing them than u do at 30. speed limits are there for a reason. dont mean to preach but i hear the same old bullshit from drivers all day long and what i tell them is that its a limit not a target. at the moment in our area its 26mph+ over the speed limit and ur taken straight to court, and tbh fair if ur doing 56mph in a 30 u deserve losing ur licence. i do however think speed limits should be raised on the likes of dual carriage ways and motorways

i totally agree with you Amanda, over 35mph in a 30 zone is just stupid especially if in a built up area, or outside shops, school etc, just pisses me off as every week, somethings gone up, tax etc, more for speeding etc,

dont mean to be an arse but its our local council who actually do it, and a specialist team who actually work in partnership with the local councils to help reduce deaths, so its just like you would have a specialist team for terroism and stuff. i alaways get people moaning saying if u spent more time sorting out rapes n stuff blah blah, at the end of the day dont speed and we wont be needed. were only trying to save lives at the end of the day

I know what your saying, and i dont condone it or using it as an excuse, but everyone speeds, you, me, the police, MP's, etc, everyone does it, so when politicains come out saying enforce this enforce that, there the ones who get caught pissed or speeding just as much.

yeah i found it quite funny when a chief constable of some force who hates "speeders" and speeding ended up getting caught himself

am all for the 30 limits round town and 20 limits around school thingk thats bang on

but with the motorway i think they should raise it to 100mph or scrap it completely i feel safer and more confident driving at 90mph than i do at 70mph becuase of other numpties doing silly things

Exactly. I drove to Cornwall and back last week, and the amount of Vans etc that were sat right on my arse because I was doing 70, taking it nice and steady was unreal.
