second what gazza has said, keep the oil and filter changed regularly, every 6000 miles and flush the old oil out every time with a proper engine flush. Use a genuine filter. If you do it yourself you should see change from £40, small price to pay for preventative measures.
Keep half an ear out on start up and hot idle, if you get any rattles, get it checked out.
Don't forget though the chain will give you a rattle to warn you, all those nasty rubber belts just pack up with no warning.
