help: roof rack or cycle carrier

i need some advice please im going to center parcs and want to take a couple of bikes with me, i need to know whether to get a roof rack with cycle carriers or a boot mounted rack.
im not sure if you use a boot mounted carrier if you can open the boot, if anyone uses either or has some advice it would be greatly apprecieted.

how heavy are the bikes??
Trying to lift a heavy bike into position trying not to scratch the roof can be a little tricky?
Do you have a tow bar?? I'm sure you can get them to clamp onto the tow ball if so? might be the best way to go?
I don't think you can open the tailgate with the boot mount carrier fitted??

for bikes i would suggest a boot carrier

Agree with above, boot carrier, you can get them which allows you to open the boot, but not sure how much.

Only issue with boot carrier's is that it is really hard to stop the wheel etc rubbing on certain parts of the car marking the paintwork.

The best ones to have are the tow bar ones, i used to work in a bike specialist shop a few years ago these where the best we used to sell.

Obvously you may not want a tow bar fitting though.

I had the same issue with the Astra due to the rear spoiler i could not get anything to fit correctly.

I am sure things have improved since i last looked and i have heard good things about these racks.

Your best bet is to go to a decent bike shop that stocks a wide range of racks and test them out. I would not really go to your halfrauds unless you have to.
