Drying ones car???

Right stupid question time :oops:

I wash my car, loads of soap, carefully using a mitt, rinse it off, leaving one clean (but very wet) car.

My usual next step would have been to Blade excess water off (not anymore as I`ve suffered the dreaded scartches)
then use a synthetic chamois to drag over the car removing remaining water!!!

Whats the best drying method, everyone talks about towelling dry, (patting)????!!!
Doesn`t this take a lifetime or can the towel be used as a chamois would in the first instance.

Its best to pat dry because if you get grit on the cloth/chamois etc you will swirl it into the paint! I know what ya mean it does take a life time but you don't much of one anyway so go nuts mate lol. What i do prob not the best way but don't tell simon!! I have a Meguire's drying towel and just slide it over the car let the weight of the towel do the work??

Ill have to have a look at your towel next time I pop by, Ive got a few different types at home that may be similar that I can use rather than going straight out and buying a Meguire`s!!!

extremely good at soaking up water, just lay on the car and pat dry or drag across with Last Touch as Lube.

BTW if you keep your car well waxed then there isn't much water left to dry off if you know what i mean. also i don't use a spray hose for the rinse just an open ended hose.

Is it wash..polish..wax , or can you just wash..wax.
& (sorry) is wax much better than just polish (phew)

polishes are and can be abrasive so it is recommended to polish every 6 months or if you have a scratch to remove, where as a wax is a protective layer to protect the paint work underneath from contamination.

I use a Meguires Drying Towel on my car when its at home.

i used to use the yellow dusters, now i use leather chamois to dry off, then microfiber cloths for polishing etc.

Exactly what Dodger has said, I have the same drying towels, and also use a quick details spray to just lube the paint up to prevent any marks during the drying process
