What to do....with my 2.2 blowup?

Seems to unfortunately be a common problem with the 2.2 letting go hence the rarity im finding in sourcing a new engine...

Mine is a 2.2 from an x reg vecta and from other links i can see that by the sounds of things any Z22SE should fit with some modifications....

But has anyone actually done a converstion like this as other things always crop up...especially with my luck cryb..

Plus how does the engine mounting vary from model to model as far as i can tell the engine was used in the ASTRA, VX220 AND Vectra was it put in any other models? finally is the Vectra c 2.2 the same or will that not fit a b version...

Any help would be really appreaciated.....have seen how some have been rebuilt but thing mine has probably thrown a conrod as their must be a hole somewhere as their oil leaking out....havent been able to find the whole but appears to be around the front of the engine somewhere.

Before it blew for the 10 miles i had driven it was a cracking car......just my luck! :roll:

Last alternative is to break her and sell the bits or sell the whole car....any interest.....?

if it's only a conrod gone then the cylinder head is usually still ok

just buy a bottom end from ebay

all z22se engines will fit, you need to swap the inlet cam if it's not a vectra B engine, all mounts are the same across the z22se range.

the early vectra C engines will also fit, but don't buy a later 04> 'z22yh engine / 2.2 direct' as they are different but do look very similar :roll:

frontera + omega engines will not fit, they are x22xe and have a cast iron block

This is turning into a bit of a major headache.....its good to know that a Vectra C will fit as i might know where i can get one....were they updated to avoid the issues with the earlier 2.2 aswell?

did you have any inclination it was going to blow?..mines been burning oil quite a bit..took to garage and they basicaly said either sell or get new engine...bit of a pain when you 7 mon ths into a 3 year finance..not impressed 1 bit.the garage said they werent sure without stripping engine what is wrong but when they took the filler cap off there was loads smoke.did suggest some tht engine oil stop burn stuff and just keep topping it uo...frustrating realy
