potential bolt on turbo kit (saab / vauxhall 2.0 t)

i have been looking around at engines and the saab 9-3 2.0t and vectra 2.0t engine look the same as the z22se.

they both come from the same family of ecotec engines but are stroked to 2.0 not 2.2

so.....

im asuming the manifold and inlets will fit and us 2.2 bunch should be laughing as we have an extra 200cc of space so should be safe????

if this is correct i was wondering if any of you lot know what would need to be done ECU wise???

Thought of this many times over....mechanicly i dont see a problem with bolting it all to the engine....but as far as the ecu goes....not a clue....maybe run the saab ecu for the engine and the gm ecu for the rest? notsure.gif

when I was considering this I found that the vectra C uses can-bus so using that ecu was a no-go 🙁

saab use a different ecu but still has issues.

easiest method would be standalone ecu :roll:

but all the turbo parts will fit the z22se engine, some will need slight mods like the inlet manifold needs drilling for the oil breather system ( just a single 5mm hole)

it's probably easier and cheaper to buy the complete turbo engine and fit a standalone ecu.

engines go for between £700 and £1k dunno..

cant i just fit all the turbo parts inc manifold, intercooler etc but use my standard 2.2 inlet manifold as i heard the 2.2 inlet is better than the saab one??

Also cant i fit a FPR so it adds more fuel on boost (maybe done by a piggyback vacuum device?? or somewhat??)

I really want to do this as i was thinking a z22se turbo would have more horses than the saab turbo lump???

Exhaust downpipe will require modifying...

So 1k for engine
£600-700 for stand alone...

£1600 for around 200 bhp...ish as the 2.0 turbo is 175bhp standard...

yes but there are too versions of the Saab 2.0t engine found in 9-3 / aeros

B207L (low pressure turbo) is the 170HP engine

B207R (high pressure turbo) is the 205HP engine (mappable to 260bhp standard)

just thought.....

use all 2.0tubro parts on the z22se engine, keep original z22se throttle body, make some pipework for intercooler and induction etc, use standard ecu and install a 5th injector and adjust the fuel pressure.

I know that this is how turbo technics do there conversions...

Any suggestions??

CAN on its own, NOT CAN-BUS :p

Controller Area Netrowk Bus simply isnt right.... lol
and the CAN engineers here look very blankly when you say "some folks call it CAN-Bus" 😃

5th injectors and fannying with the fuel pressure for turbo charger installs is a really really "bodge" way of doing things imho. If you are going to do it, do it properly (or ateast try lol).

The dbilas Turbo kit for the 2.2??

Going by the uplift regal put the exhaust manifold, I wouldn't be suprised if our friend Sven (see Dbilas manifold thread) could get the kit shipped over from Germany for quarter of that price.

I do believe that it does come with their own software, just like the dbilas inlet manifold does.

The list-price for the dbilas turbo kit in Germany is 5500 Euros + 790 Euro for fitting (speedster!) or 640 for fitting (Astra, Vectra, Zafira).

What I know from the German Speedster forum is that they organized a group buy and got the kit for 4444 Euro (including exhaust system) + fitting
or even 3684 Euros (without exhaust system) + fitting.

I can ask Sven for his price if you're really interested.

BUT there's one thing left to say. I visited a "local" tuner (famous for SC conversions thumbup ) last Saturday (in order to have my Astra on the dyno
(after 2.4 intake and dbilas manifold mod) and I heard that no dbilas turbo had the promised 260 bhp on their dyno dunno..

I don't know if the kit comes with a new software, but I assume JohnnyN is right.

what? you want to know the result of my dyno run?
It was 123,9 kW with standard Opel ECU map.
Unfortenately my car could not be remapped since they did not have a software for the Astra - only Speedster and this one didn't fit.
But they said they want to work on this and maybe they have something for me in a couple of weeks 😃

here in the US we use a Delphi system but it's been cracked by HPTuners so all one has to do is install the big 32 lb/hr injectors, turbo intercooler and retune for boost. The Delphi system is a tad limited. It seems to have a great deal of trouble understanding 3 bar MAP sensors but folks are tuning their cars to astonishing levels nonetheless. One fellow is touching just over 300 whp on 92 octane (US fuel is RON+MON/2)

imo if your going to turbo charge the z22se you need to do it propperly, not just a bolt on kit that runs around 2 psi with all stock internals. If your wanting to get power like the T3 turbos produce 300-600 hp, you could source parts yourself (mainly from usa) this would work out cheaper if not around the same price as Reagals 4.5K+ hoping to only acheive 260 hp!

ive been looking into doing this and the hardest bit i thought it would be to find was the turbo exhaust manifold, but a 2 min search on ebay usa found 2 for sale with T3 turbo fitment!
