car will not start

Hi all having replaced all inlet valves and new timing chain went to start car and it wont it turns over and there is a fuel smell and i noticed that the display unit flickers when turning over never noticed this before has anyone got any ideas\tips, the battery was disconnected for about 2 months any help would be great, very disappointed that its not running notsure.gif

Sounds like the battery may be flat. Try giving it a jump start from another car

Definately sounds like the battery has become discharged with not being run for 2 months. Either jump start, or get a new battery

i have tried jump starting engine turns over fast but will not start not sure if its fireing any way to check

is the engine light flashing ?

i have used a timing light with a inductive pick up placed over the wires where they enter the coil pack if it fires the light will flash

when you first put key in and turn to get warning lights on the engine light flashes twice then stays on, when turning over to start all lights flash in time with engine

could it be the key and engine not programed together any more because the battery was disconnected for so long, any ideas, cars just sat there just waiting to go, help notsure.gif

it does sound like an immobiliser problem dunno..

thanks for the help i charged battery and fitted it today and the eml light does flash when engine turning over, the tech 2, would only vauxhall be able to sort this ? or can i take it to another garage to be looked at

i depends on the garage if they dont have tech2 readers they would take it to vauxhall, my car was doing this and it turned out it WAS the key as it didnt hold the immob code for more than 2 seconds

does anywone have an idea as to how much it is to have the key/immobiliser reprogramed ?

It cost me £50 to have a new key and for it to be programmed, when mine went wrong basically the engine would start then die and the warning light with the car with a spanner on it would light up. Hope this helps.

£50? :shock: for a new key including reprogramming where did you go mate as ive been told im looking at £110 notsure.gif

i have just paid excluding VAT
remote key 65.05
control unit 46.50
security pass 20.00(needed this as i didnt have the card that had the immob, CD & radio codes on it)

This was at my main dealer, the electronic part in the key fob failed and the dealer supplied me with a new fob and reprogrammed my immobilisor and before he did the work he'd already told me it was £50. Unless there now charging alot more i had mine done in 2006. The battery inside the fob wouldn't make contact properly so eventually it failed and i had it replaced. I thought at the time £50 was extortionate.

can only vauxhall reprogram the pick up ring for key or can it be done by another garage
