Throttle Body Porting...

well its my turn to port my throttle body...

im in the process at the moment of just cleaning it up a little.. you know, making it all nice and sparkley.

so i took it off the top didnt look that bad, quite clean.. the underneath on the other hand.. well... very very sooty.. no not sweep sooty..

here is the lip im assuming you mean we have to take off, you cant see it very well tho

am i right in thinking that anything above the red line i can smooth, remove etc, but touch nothing below?

Check where the butterfly closes to. If you remove even a small amount here and create a gap so to speak, the idle will be quicker. Same as opening the butterfly.
Remove from the start of the bell, one side will look thicker, careful its not its got a rib. You want to get rid of that recess, now you cant put metal on!
The aim is to speed up the air flow and one way is to create a taper up to your red line. If you take it further past the red line to the max so that butterfly still closes and effectively almost seals, it will have less taper and possibly slower air flow but will get a nice induction roar.

rite, so as long as i dont make it so any more air can get through when its closed it should be fine and to taped the resess towards the valve.. ok got it 🙂

I finished polishing it up.. not even touched it with a dremel yet tho..

what size torqs bit is the butterfly valve.. and how exactly does it come apart?

don't try and remove the butterfly plate, it won't come out anyway without damaging it.

I get them out after removing some of the tb side material :roll:

ok cheers, i put it all back together last night and did another test, P1220 was the error code, wasnt listed in the book but on here it says 'P12XX Fuel and Air Metering' i checked the connections to all the pipes and made sure the TB was all on and correct. so i erased them and all had been fine since..

i assumed that if it was just because i had pulled everything apart and that if it was a problem it would come up again.

sometimes the ecu knows the tb has been removed, even if you don't touch the ignition, weird but true....

P1220 is listed in the z22se fault code list from GM. It is:

TPS 2 CIRCUIT, detect a continuous or intermittent short or open in the TP sensor #2 ciruit.

Sounds like it was a bad connection.
