So whats so bad about LAG - discuss ???

alright peeps,

went out in a new beemer 335i twin turbo today and ok so it is super quick and the owner was harping on about the smooth power delivery and lack of lag, but when it comes down to turbos i much prefer the old fashioned ones with large lag - it may sound silly but you cant beat a old turbo dog that when the turbo finally kicks in and pushes you back in your seat, soooooooo much more fun than these modern cars. funnily enough the most fun car ive ever driven is a old volvo 850 estate - it was heavily boosted to about 350 brake and suffered from terrible lag but when that boost finally kicked in it puts a smile on your face like nothing else. Even on my vans, ive got a modern citroen van that has a smooth turbo but you cant beat my old N reg 200,000 miler Iveco luton for the fun factor when the turbo kicks in (and surprises a few people with its turn of speed !!!)

I'll agree with that and sadly miss it a lot.
Gone are the days when its not a matter of overtaking something, its a matter of how quick you can go round the car in front from same speed, 1/2 sec delay, wham 1 sec later round. Nearly caught me out a few times.

thing is a lag-less car just drives relax. it will pull at all rpms so u can drive lazy without shifting too much. doing 50 in 5th gear u wont need to downshift to pass some1 and the torque at the lower regions make it go alot faster overall.

of course the downside is u cant cruise with it like u could with a na car of a turbo car with loads of lag
