Cam chain noise and won't start

Hi all (my first post lol) I bought a 2.2 today it's a Vectra B 2001 Y- reg, thing is I knew it needed work doing and was thinking of a V6 transplant but if I can fix the 2.2 engine then great!!

Now then it will try and start but makes a noise like the starter motor is just turning the crank and nothing else, it doesn't ignite and sounds like the chain is just going round??

I'd give some more info but as it was dark when I got it home I couldn't see much 🙂

Would changing the chain solve it or would there be other extensive engine damage??

Any info would be greatfully received I noticed there's a guy called Benny on here who's near me i'm in Telford and he's in Wolverhampton I believe? Would he be the best guy to contact??

you need to remove the cylinder head, replace any cracked valve guides and replace any bent valves, the general rule is if the valve is bent then the guide is probably cracked.

a new head gasket, 10x head bolts (the four smaller bolts can be re-used), timing chain, lower timing chain cover gasket and it's sorted, expect to pay about £400-£500 to fix it on a diy basis dunno..

Ha, stuff that then I'll source another engine as it's done 131,000 🙂

it maybe cheaper and easyer to repair the old lum just get the pistons out and check them and the rings for damage ......most the ones ive come across with broken chains have survived a rebuild ...you could get away with not takeing the pistons out but you do run the risk of burning a lot of oil .....
