Blue Smoke

Hey,

When I start my Vectra up on most mornings, just started doing it the past couple of days, it seems to put out blue smoke for about 5 to 10 seconds, any idea what it could be? it is missfires a couple of times while it is putting the smoke out but after the 5 or 10 seconds it is fine, I was wondering if it was the stem seals?

Sounds like either piston rings or stem valve oil seals. Both of these give similar issues to what you seem to be suffering.

I presume it is using a fair bit of oil?

It uses 1 litre a month, its running on Mobil 1 0W40 Fully Synthetic which my local dealer put in at the last service, so I keep topping it up with the same oil when need be.

What kind of mileage are you doing in a month any more then 1litre in 1000 miles is excess even with hard driving styles. Both of the above are not cheap to replace unless you can do the work yourself. Most people on here use 5-30 fully synth or 10-40 semi.

I do quite a bit, I would say it uses a litre per 1000 miles, but I am used to my 1.4 ecotec corsa which doesnt use a drop. I have just reallised I have some network q warrenty left, think I will be taking it to the dealer.

Get it booked in ASAP. They will oil an oil consumption test, drive for 1k then see how much oil it uses, If it uses more them 1ltr in this time they will investigate more.
