Don't be put off your 2.2 or buying one, just because of the cam chain issue they have had. These engines are <u>great</u> to have if the cars service history is up to date and the re work has been done. If it ever starts to rattle get a garage to look at it asap, these chains will last a long time and if serviced regular they should never go wrong! Please don't be put off because of the slight problem they had. Remember it's a chain and very strong, they rarely go wrong. Thanks

Check the Re Work has been done if needed
Keep your engine oil clean and regularly serviced
Buy a car with a good service history
For peace of mind get the cam chain done, it will last you a very long time once done. It will make you feel better about it.

I agree Mark.

The 2.2 is perhaps the best engine design Vauxhalls have made to date and was designed as the first truly global engine, youve only got to read the american forums to realise this motor is a big hit in USA, and over there theyve even got the bhp turned down a bit as standard.

Once a 2.2 that actually needs the chain mod is done and correct size oil nozzle as used from 2002 the timing chain should be good for over 100,000 miles.

So folks lets stop panicking and realise that we dont have to worry about cam belts snapping every 20,000 miles like most. 😃

I hear many Vauxhall Technicians say to me that the 2.2 is the best engine that they have produced.

While we're on the sticky subject of cam chains i did call a recall centre last year to see if my 2001 Vec 150 was among those that were poorly, fortunatley i was told it was ok. But now reading some of the previuos posts i notice the oil nozzle mentioned and 2002 as the said safe date!upon start up my chain rattles like a skeleton tugging one off in a biscuit tin, then quietens down after about 20 secs, would that 2002 year be a late, late ,2001 spec or a late 2002.

   Yours confused,unsure,and totaly pi**ed off with cars this weekend.

Rite you blokes! i've been checking out my lump, then i had alook at my engine!the cap on the back left, has the said cuts on the edges but! now wait for this has not 1 but 2 white dots on it,what do you say to that?

Just to let anyone whose taking notice of the engine numbers affected i rang up vx to see if mine was under a recall for a timing chain for which it wasnt and not in the affected range yet when Benny fitted my new timing chain i had the dodgy oil nozzle fitted.

I know i'm not the 1st as others who have had there chain snap didnt have the engine in the supposed affected range so just something to bear in mind.

I think basically if your not sure about the history of the chain replace it for peace of mind i was lucky to get away with mine not going don't think it would of lasted much longer as it was a bit noisy.
