**New 2.2-Litre Astra SRi Five-Door Hatch Joins The Range
Holden New Zealand has added another dimension to its Astra range with the addition of the sporty 2.2 litre five-door SRi hatch to the Astra lineup.
Powered by the same engine as the recently launched Astra TwinTop, the 2.2 litre direct injection four-cylinder ECOTEC engine produces 110kW* of peak power @ 5600 rpm and 210Nm of peak torque @ 4000 rpm.
It is the first Astra engine to offer variable high-pressure direct fuel injection, enhancing its efficiency compared with multi-point fuel injection systems.
The addition of the sporty SRi five-door hatch to the range will make Astra one of New Zealand's most comprehensive small car ranges.
Holden New Zealand Managing Director, Peter Keley said that the introduction of the SRi hatch was in response to a growing niche in the small car market.
"Performance and handling is not exclusively for the larger car buyer in New Zealand, consumers in the small car market appreciate these characteristics and we feel that the Astra SRi hatch would be a great match for these consumers.
"The launch of the SRi five door hatch means there is now no compromise between practicality, performance and fuel economy.
"With three body styles and choices of 1.8-litre petrol, 2.2-litre petrol, 2.0-litre petrol turbo or 1.9-litre turbo diesel engines, Astra covers a very wide range of customer needs and tastes," he said.
Astra SRi hatch
The sporty Astra SRi five-door hatch comes equipped with a standard six-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels (16 inch steel spare), sports chassis pack, semi automatic climate control, leather faced seats with heated front seats and a lower sports body kit.
These features are complemented by advanced safety features such as driver, front passenger, front side impact and curtain airbags. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control and the acclaimed crash avoidance system Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) are also standard.
