manifold idea ( probably a stupid 1)

this might be stupid idea but im just tryin to find a cheap manifold

im looking at this and thinking: could i chop off the top 4 flange and weld on ours, then chop off the 2 flange and spin it 180' and re weld it

coz it drops straight down and then spin the 2 flange so it goes the same way as mine on the astra
or am i just being stupid and too much work??? dunno..

im not clued up on the old mechanics like you guys, so i thought of an idea and put it to you to shoot me down 🙂

me to im watchin that 1 and the tsudo 1 and ive emailed the guy that made my exhaust to see if he could modifiy them to fit

Hey, good find. This Acura header is maybe just what I need.

I was looking to the "Vocky style" Weapon R/Tsudo Ecotec header, but it has serious heat problems in a VX220, needs boot modifications and I don't like the sequential cilinder pairing (1+3 & 2+4).
This may work fine on a NA engine (if the primaries are long enough for scavenging), but on a forced ind engine (I have an LSJ engine waiting to be installed) it is better to have a non-sequential header (paired 1+4 &2+3). This just flows better. (Search the i-net for the pro's & con's of this.)

Weapon R also has a RACE style ecotec header with non-sequential cilinder pairing, but it is more expensive and still needs some modifications to fit my VX. But maybe fits then without any body mods. However, modifying this acura header with a new flange and some reshaping looks easier.And cheaper! :-)

There are lot's of Ecotec headers (cheap or not so cheap) in the US, but they almost all need modificationsto fit our european VX... Just do a search on Ebay.com for "Header + Ecotec" .

The header pictured above seems for a longitudinal mounted engine....

Daft question. Why doesn't the OEM VX220 manifold have the heat problem that the ""Vocky style" Weapon R/Tsudo Ecotec header" apparenlty does? Is it the material it's made from? notsure.gif

the weaponR race header would be ideal to modify for a vx220 if you removed the boot compartment, run the primaries straight out of the head, over the subframe, join them all up and finally head towards the back box dunno..

For a SC engine it's better just to use a larger bore 4-1 to get the exhaust gas out quick as you don't need to keep the exhaust gas velocities up.

Jim at 2bular has just finished the first 4-1 for the MAXR's SC VX, Jims work is not cheap but the quality is the best I've seen.

No, you do have enough heat there under/in front of the boot.. 😃
I just mend that for the VX220 you need to provide sufficient room and heat shielding for that particular header... Especially with an SC, because then this header becomes red-hot! A modified RACE version might go without this, but probably needs more space under the subframe... notsure.gif
(Therefore I'm busy modifying my old subframe for some extra room there.)

4-1 will work fine for an SC, but also there you should try to use long (-ish) primaries for best effect. And space is tight in a Vx220. A non-sequential 4-2-1 with short primaries works the same as a good 4-1 and I like to make my engine as efficient as possible.. And then apply some boost... 😃 )

So were I to put an SC and WeaponR in the back of my VX220, and I wanted to retain the boot, how do I stop the rear clam from melting? dunno..

Having spent considerable time modelling different 4-2-1 configurations i can assure you it's alot easier to fit a long, 500+mm, 4-1 in the VX package space.

Good to hear that.. But that will have to be completely custom fabricated. (Read: cost time + efforts or money...) Or I must find a suitable donor Ecotec header to modify...
I don't have the tools to fabricate/bend a complete manifold, nor do I want to spend a lot of money on this. But I do have some skills with a TIG welder... 😃
