crankshaft oil seal

hi there i am a new member of z22se and have a tech question can anybody throw a small how to together on changing the crankshaft oil seal i am a time served fitter so shouldnt be too much of a problem just need pointing the right way

Part costs about £10 and fitting takes roughly 1/2 an hour if you have access to a compressor, longer if you aint.

yea mate got a compressor is there any sort of how to on stripdown etc

Its so easy you dont need a how to, remove the aux belt, remove crank pulley and bolt, then prize out the offending seal. Fitting the new seal, tap seal into housing using a suitable sized socket or drift coat then coat the pulley / seal contact area in grease, then sling everything back together. Once you`re looking at the pulley etc it will be clear as to what needs to be done.

One thing I forgot to say, TIS 2000 says usenew bolt then torque to 100 nm (old money 74 lb ft) then 75 deg then 15 deg

chain cover

so you are saying it can be done from the outside without taking the timing chain cover off that does seem easy

Yep, the seal sits in a recess in the timing chain cover.

thanks very much thaught it was inserted from the rear of the timing chain cover rather than the outside bit of hastle taking the chain cover off so i hear, i have the seal will have to get a new bolt any ideas which way the seal goes incase i destroy the old one taking it out

just noticed you have tis could you check wether vaux has gave me the right part the number is 90571925

The seal is a typical shaft seal, the seal has a recess that faces the engine, the outer face of the seal should be flush. You will onle destroy the seal upon removal if you use C4 instead of a screwdriver to remove it.
