Am i being done?

I have a 2001 2.2 150bhp Vectra which needs new front pads.

I have used the same mechanic for a while now and he has quoted me £85 inc VAT for a new set of front pads - fitted.

He has told me that the front pads are genuine vauxhall & have in-built sensors to connect to the on-board computer display (which is what told me the pads need doing in the first place!)

I have 2 kids and a mrs who use the car almost everyday so i dont want to get cheap brakes, but i still cnt elp but think that £85 for front pads is a bit pricey!

Can anyone help / advise me otherwise? Is this a fair price?

The pads aren't very expensive £15/£20 so it'll be the labour for a total of £85. I would guess that its an hours labour + the pads with the VAT. So £85 sounds correct to me.

The sensors are a seperate item IIRC. The sensor is a push fit into the pad. The sensors are around £10 each. They break more often than not when you are removing them so he may also be including them in the price which makes £85 inc. fitting even better.

Of coarse, you could save yourself a bundle by fitting them yourself?

gen pads retail at vx for £52.50....normal trade are £44.65 and trade club £34.26....

So working on trade 44.65 for the pads £10 for the wear sensor that £54.65 plus his bit for fitting....so all in all a good price really...that plus vat of course...

£65 + vat for the pad and disc kit from VX. Same price whether its for 1.2 corsa b or 314mm fitted to the Vec C GSi. Fit um yourself mate, dead easy.

If you can`t do it yourself, phone your local dealer, the menu pricing will suprise you. Failing that ask another garage to give you a quote.

best off, if you can do them yourself, cause you can save the money and buy some upgraded pads.

BLOODY HELL!! TBH i've never bought a set of genuine for the Vectra. The last set of genuine pads I bought was for my Cavalier and they were about £20!!

Just be aware, VX sell two grades of pads, OE and aftermarket. The OE are far better and more expensive than the aftermarket. On the Vec C you can also get Police spec pads from VX, great stopping power but very very dusty.

They do the Police spec for the Vectra B too.

Couldnt tell you mate sorry, but as they used to use the B as traffic cars I would have thought so. They are made by mintex. Incidental, I just got my Mintex OE pads from Autovaux for £20

normally would fit them myself to sve a few quid but got my 2 kids and mrs in the car alot and as i am far from a mechanic, thought it would be best to get a pro to do it.
