Should they stay or should they go ? (Cams that is!)

alright peeps,

some of you may have seen my post about lumpy cams and im undecided whether or not to remove my fast road cams and put my originals back in

so,

with fast road cams, at what sort of RPM do they actually give more power than the standard cams because i never go over about 5000 RPM

is there any power and torque losses with fast road cams say below 3000 RPM over the standard cams because my car does seem to have a lack of low end power but im not sure whether its the 2.4 manifold or the cams (i had done at the same time)

any thoughts??

its the manifold... so removing the cams wont fix that

only a good exhaust manifold will sort that out

well got the dbilas cast manifold on order should be here in a couple of weeks hopefully !!

I had a chat with a x2 members on here at the RR day that have got the exhaust mani and say it really helps with the low down torque you may be best waiting until you fit that, and then see.

"hotter" cams will push the power band up the rev range with a mild sacrifice of low down torque. But most of the cam specs (for the 2.2) I've been able to find are actually failrly mild in my eyes and in the terms of "losing" bottom end torque.

Well the 2.4 manifold completley killed what torque my car had. Personally, unless the larger throttlebody restores some of the torque I will be inclined to get rid.

I found fitting Piper cams didn't really loose any of the lowdown power and did give a healthy boost over 5,500rpm. I believe piper quote the power band around 6,200-6,800rpm so If you don't really go over 5k, then you won't really be getting the benefit. The big negative on the cams for me though is the rough idle. My vx220 is a 3rd car and is used for fastroad / track only so I can put up with the poor idle. Personally I would of put the old cams back in by now if it was my daily drive.

well put the old cams back in and its now running super lovely so was most definately the cams (or the cams in conjunction with the manifold) and not the manifold
