Anyone use wireless networking.

Anyone have any ideas on how to extend the range of my wireless network.

I have a BT Voyager 2110 wireless router/hub with the desktop plugged in on the ethernet and the printer plugged in on the ethernet network. I use mu laptop all over the house, this has a BT wireless card in it. I always struggle to get a good signal upstairs.

Cos the printer etc is plugged into the router I can't change the position of the router, is there any device out there that can boost the power of the network to give me a better signal upstairs????

I know that there are several of you into computers etc, so I thought i'd ask on here.

i have a wireless network but am using belkin equipment. get a good signal all around the house.

i got a bt 2100 router upsatirs...tbh signal upstairs is excellent,but gets worse as i get downstairs...i think last time i used my laptop it was just a good signal at 24mbps....if i'm outaide in the car its very poor...cant u get a signal booster?not sure if there any good tho...Been told belkin is very good stuff to have...

i got the wanadoo one and i can use the laptop anywhere in the house no probs

Make sure your laptop is running at 54Mbps (wireless g) and not 11Mbps (wireless b) as the faster one has a much greater range.

It also depends on what your house is made of, so if you live in an old house with solid walls, you'll be lucky to get much range at all. However, if like me you live in a newer style house where the walls are made from plasterboard, then you should get a signal throughout the house no problem.

A mate of mine has his mother-in-law living next door (poor guy), however, they can still pick up his wireless signal in thier house!!

What also doesn't help if you have large power cables running up and down the wall.

Yeah, 1st thing to check is that it is running on 802.11g and not b. 802.11g is the new 54mb protocol, and it the better of the 2. It does give a better signal range. I've got these:

Netgear DG834g Wireless Modem and Router

Netgear WG511v2 PCMCIA Card

Both use the 802.11g protocol, and I can get a very good signal throughout my whole house. And it's an old terrace with solid walls.

There are ways to upgrade the ariel on the router, have a look on google for "Pringle Can Ariel Upgrade"

Good one aint it! I've had no problems at all, my router has only been switched off once since August, and that was when I moved house. Never drops it's connection, and I can get the wireless network working in Windows XP and Linux, so I'm a happy chappy.

Plus, I bought them from PC world, and got 25% nocked off both items for ordering online, and then collecting from the shop.

I have a belkin and the router is downstairs desktop upstairs and it works great. I think Belkin is the better buy
