I would have to strongly disagree with that. When I bought my car, it was NO where near what it looks like now regarding paint finish. To keep your paint work tip top does not only come down to what wax or sealer you use but also what type of cloths that you use to apply wax and remove it. Also using a top quality wash mit is better than using a standard sponge. Also, using a clay bar will remove any surface contminants from the paintwork as a start to your cleaning process.
The paint work on the bodywork of my car is all original and is almost 6 years old yet it still looks fantastic without any swirl marks in it. Silver is a pig to make look anymore shiney but with the products that i've been using over the years, the paint work is far more glossy looking and the silver flake in the paint is far more pronounced. If you do a back to back test between a panel treated with a high quality wax and a hand washed panel you will see a difference.
