Running lumpy on idle AND nasty burning smell..

right ever since i had my oil changed the car idles slightly higher than what it used to, it used to idle at 500 bang on and you couldnt even notice the car was switched on, now its inbetween 500 and 550 and its really lumpy, the revs drop and raise but only very slightly.. but its noticeable to me..

any ideas?

also ive noticed theres a nasty burning type smell coming through the vents.. mainly after a long run. ive opened the bonnet and its all fine, cant see/smell anything there, so what could it be? its not always there, just every now and then.

the brakes are wearing thin so could it be them? they're getting changed in a week or so but i always thought brakes had a distinctive smell, like the clutch etc.. i just wondered if anyone else had experienced anything like this?

did you spill any oil when it was changed could be that just buring off mate dunno.. ( for the smell )

most of 2.2 run abit like that its 2 do with the Emissions because they hav 2 be so low no days! mine did that sum times but not all the time !! 😃

dealer changed the oil mate, so i have no idea. can't see any oil anywhere in the engine bay.

you on about the lumpyness dude? cant understand it myself as its been fine since i got it in november, now ever since it got changed it does it dunno.. suppose its nothing major but its just one of those little things that bug ya notsure.gif

yeah mine used 2 do it SOME times not all the time,cums down 2 the Emissions bcuz the goverment want them 2 be clean that wot we get n 🙁 mate! it still runs ok tho dont it wen driving? do u know wot oil vauxhall put in? i always use that longlife 5 30 oil should make any difference tho bud !!

yeh i think its got 5w30 in it

drives fine yeah mate it's ok ill just have to put up with it lol!

Rick,

They could have spilt some oil when filling it and it is burning off. The other thing is have you checked the oil level make sure they didnt slightly over fill it putting 5litres in.

If im honest when i did check it the other week it was slightly higher than maximum notsure.gif

The only reason i say this is i had a similar thing happen about 2years ago took it in for a oil change a Vaux dealer to find that it ran not 100% when i checked the oil it was over max when i confronted the dealership they said "well we just put 5litres"

I think our engines take 4.75 or somthing so this maybe your case.

When ever my current mechanic does the oil change he always gives me back the 5litre tub back with some in.

This may have nothing to do with with but it may dunno..

lol gud arnt they hey! but the thing i hav found out the do variey mine used 2 take 5l and me mates does but i know not all do take the full five L dont ask me y lol bet they spilt oil wen the put the engine cover bk on then the oil goes under the coil pack so u not see it !
