Bad vibrations!

Hi,
Just come from VVOC got recommended to ask for help here with regards to a problem with a 2002 Zafira 2.2 that i have. Vec Gsi owner that has gone and got the wife a family car lol

I have noticed a really slight rattle possible timing chain so going to replace that, but I get a real bad vibration/resonation from the engine when at between 2500-3200 rpm, far worse when either level throttle or when you come off it. can only describe it as that but sounds like plastic resonating, but as i can feel it right through the car can only think possible tensioner. Are there common failures thatr i should look for any help would be welcome as you guys seems to know the 2.2 better than anyone!!
also, do they all "miss" slightly on idle, it has been sat in a garage for 3 months if that helps!

i had a vibration sound on mine but it there on start up it turned out to be the plastic on the timing chain flippers had started to break up due to the oil nozzle being to small all replaced under warranty

the best i can describe is that it felt like the exhaust is bolted directly to the car! but only between those rev ranges. I will be having it all apart the weekend to get to the bottom, as don't plan on driving it till its done as that cahin rattle sounds nasty when you rev it!

Welcome along m8... get the chain done asap is all i can say...or else...new engine...Might be that the balance shaft chain has skipped a few teeth and the balance shafts are running out of time....

possible as that would describe why it does not feel as bad under load, but still there? Are there markings so that you can reset the balance sahft once its stripped down??

to be totally honest ,for another £80 whilst its aprt i wud fit the balance shaft chain also....Timing up is apeice of cake as the chains have got colured links..

cheers for that mate, what you are saying sounds to be the problem that i got, take it the balance shaft chain does not come with the kit then????? Will this be vauxhall stock or should i pre order it?
many thanks for the info mate, really does explain the vibration as its awful, makes the car feel really rough

theres 2 kits....the timing chain kit and the balance shaft kit...some dealers stock them others dont.....u will also need timing cover gasket,cam cover gasket,crank pully bolt,oil and filter..and i think thats it from memory..not a bad job to do,allow about 5-6 hours the 1st time u do one....

Balance Shaft Chain Kit = 12576647 £87.50 +VAT

just found this on this lovely site so will make sure i get this along with all the other bits needed. Just hope it cures the problem lol but i know at least once its doen i need not worry about it going for some good time!!

pity they never did a V6 zafira, i would have been ok then! lol

Pmsl....they tried with a v6 sintra....done a belt on one b4....was a nightmare....no room to work in...well alot les than vec anyhow....if u need any question answered just pop us a pm....

just to add to all this, someone suggested an engine mount, although I am still going to replace all the chains, do the 2.2 suffer with this???? Was thinking of just putting my spare V6 in the damn thing and being done with it lol! V6 Zaffy...............silly idea!

Got what feels like rough running or vibrations at various revs. Certain symptoms when pulling away feels like a clutch prob until you realise they engines flapping about. Yeah, going for the 4th engine and gearbox mountings at 80K.

Had something similar to your other problem 😃 Slight ticking from what appeared no1 cylinder together with a reduction in power as the timing chain had stretched throwing crank, inlet and exhausts cams out etc.

i thought at first engine mounts, but they seem fine, but will be doing the chains Saturday as everyone that has tried it feels the same way, and the rattle is too bed to even consider leaving undone. Even if its not them, at least i know i will not have to worry about them letting go and scrapping the engine!!
Fingers crossed it will be fine, just had the windows tinted lol

Exactly.

Cant really put my finger on mine, hoping its the vibration transmitted through the deteriorated mounts.
Not sure if Powerflex do something suitable i only get around 20k from the gearbox mount, anyone know?

spot on diagnosis Daz mate, at least 6 teeth out on the balance shaft!!!! ensioner had broken up and part of it still missing lol probably in sump, still have a rattle from somewhere think poss a tappet but will flush and change oil and take it from there.

well, here's one for you, car is fine until revved over 5000 rpm, then vibrations return.
removed and refitted all chains again, nice and tight run fine, rev over 5000 rpm, vibration comes back, timing is not going out but seems that balance chain is able to move yet tensioner is working fine??

I believe he fitted a new balance shaft chain kit neil.....
