Hard Drive Crashed last Night

I was using ccleaner which found 1.3Gbytes of files to delete (temporary internet files, recycle bin etc) so i deleted it all then the hard drive froze and reset itself . The screen froze, so turned the machine off and rebooted logon ok then froze again. Took the hard drive out and put it in the usb caddy to see if i can get the data off tonight using my laptop, i'm hoping it's just a bad sector and nothing serious. dunno..

Wish me luck, i last backed up about 3 weeks ago so it's just recent pics and the email pst file i need.

Unlucky mate, at least the data should hopefully be recoverable. When my Harddrive went, I lost everything that was on there 🙁

Hopefully you should get it offf via the Caddy.

I myself also lost alot og data after a spanned two SATA disks togeather and then i lost one all the data went.

Dodger it may be worth running a chkdsk /r command to see if it repairs?

got all the data off and backed up using the usb caddy, thats a relief. used the hitachi selftester DOS app and can't find any faults, back using the computer now a seems ok.

Get yourself another 2 drives and mirror them using RAID1. That way you still have performance with all the security 😃

Thats good news Dodger.

Thanks for the advice DBcoup, I will get round to getting another SATA drive and runnning RAID1, i am currently just got one SATA drive and another IDE for backup and then an external caddy also.

One of my hard drives failed, lost about 5 years worth of photo's, was proper gutted.

Now i try to back up every other month or so..

I've had most of my impostant data spanning 2 PC's (my desktop and my Laptop) and also a 260GB exernal drive for backup purposes. Will also be getting another drive specifically for backing up Music and Photos in the next few weeks. I also back up to DVD's when I can remember/find the time to do it.

err just to let you no these a great program for recovering files as long as its not a hardware falt everthing can be recoverd even after a full format.. search getdataback for ntfs
you can get the full app off torrent easy to use it can be time consuming but if you need to get them back it may help
all you do is right click on the files you want to recover and save them to another hdd (last image)
