failed test on emissions

any idea what would be causing values like this ?
they are waay out :cry:

fast idle test

CO Max Limit - 0.300 - actual 9.298
HC 200 - actual 1060
Lambda min 0.970 max 1.030 - actual 0.801

second fast idle test

CO 0.300 actual 9.946
HC 200 actual 1187
Lambda min 0.970 max 1.030 - actual 0.761

Natural Idle Test

CO max 0.500 actual 5.869

the bloke said, it cant just be the lambda, but not sure if i could trust them tbh
reckon a dodgy lambda would cause such high readings ?

Any chance Daz could post what the readings should be.... for us mear mortals to compare this too? dunno..

possible egr or pcv duty cycle coolant sensor the list gos on hard to say start with the air filter and work your way from there

ive an egr sim on the car, but your right i could go round in circles with this,

going to swap lambdas tommorrow i've a spare

Got the cheater on my car also,no probs with emmisions at mot time,plus if the cheater went faulty u'd get an eml

yeah ive no post cat sensor at all, the spare is from the car originally, one of those universal ones,
there should be a change when i swap them, if not its something else, if it is i'll treat the car to a proper vauxhall one 😃

thats the other weird thing, i don't have any EMLs - not checked for stored codes tho

i dont think a broken lambda causes an EML either

For all 3 readings to be out summats a miss.......If it was just the fast idle and nat idle co i'd say the cat,but the llambda aswell,quite a low reading so its quite lean,any exhaust blows or a big orrofice pipe...

swapped lambda still the same, 🙁

it kicks out quite a lot of soot and stinks

doesnt sound like its blowing from anywhere, but never can be sure with the tsudo header notsure.gif

would the coil pack do this ? - it was ok while it was on the car, but something mightve happened to it while it was off ? (stranger things have happened - alternator died while stored...)

or maybe the timing ?

stinks very rich, not petrol,

im starting to suspect the timing,maybe i didnt time the chain in properly, but looked ok when i did it

nah not eggy, just very sooty

i got a fault code tonite while testing something, its a code ive had before, engine started running really badly too, misfires etc - P0340, which is camshaft sensor problem, - we dont even have one - unless its part of the coil pack ?

could be the coolant sensor, going to check the OBD reader to see what temp its getting, im sure its ok tho

some pics to help you try and fix your vx cheers..

the various loom plugs have a common connection (similar to the dodgy connection you found for the horn loom)
that includes both lambdas, all injectors, vent valve, coil pack and other stuff

also worth opening up the ecu plugs, leave the violet pin holder in place, just remove the cover, pull back the water proof cover, cut the cable tie and then using two screwdrivers unclip and pull the plug apart

turned out to be a dodgy lambda (well 2 dodgy lambdas that produced the same results)
tip, dont store lambdas in the shed for a length of time :lol:
running really smooth now, just need to rebook it for another MOT!
