misfire?

right troops, I'm looking for some expert opinion!

My engine has been running oddly for a while. When I accelerate (doesn't matter if its hard or gentle) it hesitates and feels like an intermittent misfire.
Best way to describe it is like traction control cutting in. In neutral it revs fine and runs ok when cruising at a steady speed, only seems to happen under load.

Spark plugs, fuel/air/oil filters are all fresh, as is the timing chain. No engine light & cleaned out the egr valve also, but the problem remains.

Anyone have any ideas?

had a problem like that but wasnt all the time sometimes it would go ok then other times lack power and misfire turned out to be the coil pack

Anyone have any ideas where I can get one at a decent price? I 've seen a couple on ebay but to be honest I don't want to take the risk and end up forking out for a faulty one.

£55 quid inc VAT at Vauxhall stealer, that was about 2 weeks ago.

does anyone know if their is a way to test the coil pack to see if its faulty? As £55 for something that may need replaced is waste.

i read somewhere that you spray a very fine mist of water on them and see if you can see a spark track to earth in the dark but i think that this may be used more for coil packs that do not sit on top of the spark plugs unlike the z22se

Spooks, was that £55 for a new unit from a main stealer?

Just called my local vx place and they quoted me £180, the conversation ended soon after!

My stealer quoted £130 and presented me with £190 bill, additional £60 for fault code diagnostic!! even though they were aware that the problem was faulty coil pack diagnosed by local garage free of charge. :shock:

Yeah, asked for a price while I was there enquiring about my timing chain, I assumed the price wasn't fitted! - also the bloke was a friend of a friend and although I'd never met him before, he seemed to help me out where he could.

Just to update this, got hold of a new coil pack.
Took all of 5 minutes to fit and it seems to have cured the problem, car running better than it ever has
