camshaft locking tool?

could someone please look at item number 360006910687 on ebay and just confirm for me this would be the tool needed for when i take my cams out so it stays timed up so they can go to piper?also im paranoid that when my chain was done that the timing was out even tho theres nothing to make me think that it is out as car runs ok but i quess when you set car to tdc if locking tool doesnt go on then that would show if timing was out as dont really want to take lower timing chain cover off to check like i say probally just me as did chain well over a year ago and car runs ok even tho does seem slow but quess im just used to it thanks guys

been looking for the tool so i can take my camshafts out without messing with the timing ie keeping chain on sprockets so its just a simple take off put on with no worry of messing with the timing ive found the tool on the tool acadamy site on ebay price is £68 delivered anybody got any links for anywhere cheaper? 😃

Do you really need a locking tool? Can't you just cable-tie them to a bit of metal or something?
It's just the miser in me doesn't like the idea of paying 70-odd quid for a tool i'll only use once.

Does the special tool let you hold the chain + gears in place while removing the cylinder head, or is it for cam removal only? I guess that might be more worthwhile.

you can do it without the tool but if for some reason it went wrong ie came off crankshaft sprocket or something you would have to take timing chain cover of etc to reset timing and i know how much of a pain that was when i did my timing chain so i think id rather spend the money and hopefully save myself any hassle cheers..

To be honest its extremely hard to keep the chain tight without the tool. Any slack in the chain and it will come off the bottom crankshaft sprocket putting the timing out. You then have to remove the timing cover to set the timing again which leads to ££ in gaskets.

Easier and actually probably cheapaer with the tool.

p.s.

The tool bolts to top of the cylinder head, so the head can't be removed with it still attached.
