So i am after a turbo...

Budget £2k

Fr/rwd/4wd doesnt matter...

So far i am very interested in...

A fiat coop 20vt (Italian) Can be problamatic apparentley???
A rover tomcat (well its british ) But cheap to work on and repair i imagine?
Lexus soarer (A little concerned about repair costs being a lexus.
Toyota mr2 (Hairdresers car and only two seats?

Maybe going to look at a tomcat this weekend.

Anyone know anyone or have owned themselves one of these cars?

Very interested in peoples views and tech knowlege..

I thought that the Rovers like that had a rather nasty handling problem?? Also, is it possible to get any of these cars with the acception of the Rover for less than £2000??

I had the rarer (and better IMHO) 220 2 door hatch.

TBH, it's going to be hard to find an un-abused example today, I sold mine about 5 years ago and they were thin on the ground then.
Pretty solid cars, and they handle a treat, but if you get too enthusiastic with them, they'll eat clutches and g/boxes for a past time, but it's still by far the best car out of the 4 you've listed 😃

The mr2 would be my first choice, great handling and good power/weight ratio 🙂

He hasnt got a Car ATM.

All are ok Cars just 2k budget and age of the car which ever one you go for make sure it has good history.

What about a RS turbo?

I will be honest, for £2k you're going to buy a load of trouble with a turbo'd car :shock:

I doubt you will find one with a good engine, a smokey turbo will cost £500 + to fix, head gasket will probably go too dunno..

just my thoughts...........

Yeh good history is a must i agree... The rover i am looking @ this weekend has just had a recon turbo fitted.

I agree the budget is a tad low for a good one..

Rs's i havent looked into these maybe i will ta..

Also looked @ cosys but they are way above budget for a tidy example..

The mr2's are tempting!! Only thing is they are imports all the turbo's so higher insurance..

And yeh my car was sold about two weeks ago..

Mr2 all the way but you wont find a decent one for 2K

A friend of mine had an import MR2 with twin entry turbo and it went like a fekkin donkey with its ass whipped!! He paid around £4k and it ended up more trouble than it was worth. Problems with replacement parts within the first 4 weeks so he ended up taking it back to the garage and changing it for something else.

From those two the rover looks like the best bet :roll: Dont think Id be comfortable spending 2k on a 11yo 100k mile fiat.

Does it need to be turbo'd ?

Fto looks nice.. But did really want a turbo. I settled for a non turbo last time and wish i hadnt. Cant own another veccy drakey will think i have a veccy compulsive disorder lol...

FTO is good choice and prob within budget.

The only prob i had when i looked at FTO's was no one touch me insurance wise, i think they are like group 20!!! I more look with WRX STi.

Goto tell ya, my mate had Rover 220 Turbo when it come out, in fact he still has it on " K " plate.... we used to call it the starship enterprise cos it was white and wnet like fook . 2nd gear 80mph, but i do recall he went throought head gasket a lot with it. alright for him at the time as it was a company car, but good enough fun for him to buy back of the lease company when the first 3yrs was up.
