What amp??

Hi guys,

the amp that was powering my subs (MTX311D) blew many many months ago and up untill now i've not been able to afford a new one but i'm getting my xmas bonus next week so i'm looking to but an amp out of that.

can anyone recommend me an amp to power my 2 12" MTX Thunder 5500 subs? The subs are 300watts RMS each and are single voice coil.

I'm looking to spend around £150, i might be able to stretch to a lttle more . It doesn't have to be MTX either.

Any suggestions??

These should retail for £379 and it's an absolute steal @ this price !!
This will give you 550w @2ohms, and that's REAL watts, not ebay watts, you won't get better for the money !

British build, awesome quality, and if it goes wrong outside warrenty (they don't) Genesis do a fixed price repair which includes a re-polish of the stainless steel case, so it returns as new, and 9 times out of 10 when you ring Genesis for advice or an order, you'll speak to Gordon Taylor the MD, their after sales service is 2nd to none 8)

have heard lots of good things about Orion Sub and amps so might see if i can stretch to that one Matt.

As the man above says, no big song and dance about watts its glorious British watts.

I have two Genesis amps, one of them the cheaper budget Profile2 only to drive the rears and an old SA110 ex demo £370 in 1996 which was left outside in the open for 8 years! Yep it still worked but had trouble getting the screws out of the terminals due to rust.

You will get a better idea if i say a stereo 35W per channel British amp will be louder and have more grunt than the equivalent asian stereo 145 Watt per channel! Fact.
The other plus is its supporting the British economy for £10 more.

Watts mean nothing! If you have the chance try listening to an Audionote 7W per channel (yes seven) valve amp, no distortion at full power and delivering almost ear splitting performance. Likewise an asian to same level would have needed around 150w per channel together with its crap distortion at anything over 5% volume and speaker will blow within 5 mins.

It is fantastic stuff Hareng, but saying that, I'm slightly biased !

I was so impressed, I've gradually replaced all my ice with Genesis equipment.

I have a Profile 4 (bridged) running Audiophile A16.02 Components, and a Profile 1 running a Audiophile 30.01 Subwoofer, headed up by a Alpine CDA 9836R.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of oooomph when required, but the quality of sound is stunning.

As the old saying goes, you pays your money.............

well been reading lots of good things about Genesis amps so i'm quite tempted to go for one now, will have to wait and see how much i get paid friday.

Well i've got paid today and i've just bought one of these amps. looking around different websites these amps retail at £380 so got it at a very good price 🙂

can't wait to get my subs back in my car been well over 18 months lol.

Wise choice Andy, you will not be disappointed.
Quite slim these Profi jobbies but need a bit of room for the fan.

Dingo, i bet that sounds absolutely glorious. My old front KEFS are the same as one of the labelled Genesis speakers and made by Dynaudio.
If you wanna shift air at low British wattage ie sub 35w, choose 10" Dynaudio for bass, it opens and closes doors 2" 4M away continuously, weird. Dont do your gut much good either.

amp came today and i've fitted it and i'm well happy, forgot what it was like to have decent bass in the car lmao.

If you feel the need, there's a bass controller that goes with that amp, so you can up or down the bass depending on music type/mood/passengers etc.

There's 2 models, depending on which controller socket your amp uses, but both are readily available.

IIRC I paid £35.00 for mine, but it's worth every penny !
