figo1805 hi just wondering about my timing chain ,does it need a check .its a 2003 sri 2.2 , did they sort out the timing chain probs out by 2003 or could it still need looking at thanks,,,,,,,,,,
vocky 2003 should be good 🙂 they started to fit the later spec chains in 2002, so 2003 registered cars should have the later chain
AM556 Don't take anything for granted though! Had my 03 for 6 months, knocking started so took to local garage before christmas, said cams and chain were ok and must be something else, so took it away to investigate myself. Removed sump and found big end gone (thanks Vocky) HOWEVER!! got myself a timing tool and checked chain before removal of head and lowe n behold, the timing chain had jumped 2 teeth on the crank! This was despite the car driving very well and un-noticable. I found the cause to be a broken bolt at the top of the tension guide, thus allowing the chain to become slack. Rocker had not been removed so how on earth the garage could have checked the cams is beyond me!

vocky different material used for the guides, the old style go brittle and of course the larger oil jet.
