extreams of hot and cold deteriourate the plates, perticually the cold, the jacket just prolongs the life of the battery a little by insulating it. I have a bag but mine just died this xmas, making it about 4 and a half years old...not bad I guess, but probably an average life expectancy. For £30 I'd probably just put the money towards a new battery when it does go.
