What brakes?

Yet another question notsure.gif

My front brakes need replacing (discs & pads) but im not sure what size they are? it's a 2001 astra 2.2 coupe. some of the ones ive been looking at say 280mm, some say over 300, but i just want a direct replacement, so im assuming they'll be the 280s?

Also what sort of make should i go for? im not going to be doing any track days or anything just general use.

Found these on ebay but not sure if they'd be any good?

The fronts are 288mm and the rears 256mm, the 2nd link is are the best ones there, quite a few people on here and AOC are running them front and back, id go for predator pads tho, very minamul brake dust and fading.

you positive mate? as after spending ages looking, all the ones on ebay for my car are 280mm?

no probs mate. but whats strange about it is someone who doesnt come on here who has a coupe also said 288mm lol

i cant even find any 288's anywhere on the net!

288 are for the Veccy and VX220, need back and front, pads and handbrake pads, well overdue.

Got the EBC green on front, dont rate em highly and will try something else Predator or Mintex as i am a heavy user.
I take it the discs on the dearer ones are better quality steel and less prone to warping with the heat treatment etc?

TBH, if you are looking at new pads and discs why not just get the 308 setup IMO the 280 setup is just not good enough. The brake upgade was one of the best things i did.

It has really come down in price now as well.

Sounds tempting! although with the grooved discs and decent pads it's just over £300, which is double what i wanted to spend really.

Or would the normal 308 disc/pads be fine?

just noticed i can't have them, need 17s minimum and ive got 16's.

Normal pads and discs will be fine, i have heard of users on AOC getting away with 16" alloys but a very tight gap personaly i would only go with what is recomended.

Jammee, i think i posted in your other thread but i think you can go upto the 345mm AP 4 pot setup with 18" rims but at a price of £1600.

The Astra VXR setup is 322mm which is £500 then you will need new VXR hoses which are around £35.

think im just gonna go with the black diamond 280mm grooved discs and predator pads from lmf.

the standards werent too bad for my driving anyway so these should be ok.

will change them for bigger ones when i get some new wheels.

fitting is only £30 at my local garage so will be just over £150 all in which isnt bad at all!
