BT Charges

Not sure if you can remember, but I had to get BT out to replace some of the cabling in my house, and fit a proper NTE5 master socket.

Well, I thought they were doing this for free, as there wasn't a master socket in the house........anyway, 2 months down the line, got my BT phone bill for January 2008......£350!!!!!

£269 + VAT site visit charge
£15 + VAT parts
£16 + VAT phone bill

FECKING HELL! Best get some more OT in at work

They had to come out to run new cabling and a new box into our house, they wanted £120 just for that.. so the missus phoned up and complained saying she shouldnt have to pay for it etc and they gave her a credit note for the £120.

At the end of the day if their cabling needs work it should be done off their back not yours? and shouldnt they of told you before hand how much it'd cost.. Then you could of accepted or refused the work? dunno..

Thats disgusting, like Rick said surley you dont have to foot the bill as they did not confirm this with you before the work was carried out.

To be honest, it was me who asked for the phone point to be moved though, as it was going into the kitchen, but I asked for it to be moved into the living room, so I could get faster broadband.

Did it work? My BB has steadily been getting slower from 5.5mbps avg line speed (real world download speed), now it's down to 2.8.

They had faffed with the line at one point and had under 2, after screaming at the indian callcentre managed to get 2.8 but still poor.

I stick with BT BB as they appear to be the one of the few that don't charge you for 'unlimited' use. I regularly go over on mine (4-5 times in fact), yet all that happens is a slow down between 18:30 - 23:00 down to 0.5Mbps. Which is poor but I can live with it.

All the other providers seem to say 40Gb and then we charge you per meg etc.

TBH the best ADSL BB ive ever had is Sky, i had a constant 15mb, with their 16mb package (was only £10p/m ontop of my tv package)

I was with BT Broadband up until 3 weeks ago, i opted for their 8mb Unlimited Package and i rarely got more than 4mb. I do quite alot of high volume downloads so this was no good for me..

Now i tried bethere and they said im looking at getting less than 8mb, so i've gone back to virgin. getting a steady 19mb and ive downloaded well over 60GB in the last two weeks with no charges/throttling. So at the mo im quite impressed with them.

I have cable here, in fact I can stare at the cable port and phone port HOWEVER, I'm in an analogue area (literally of just a few houses) that they don't want to upgrade. So I'm gutted otherwise I'd have it.

Having done some development work with ntl on the cablemodems in the early days I know my port is still live, but as it's analogue they won't touch me.

So I'll carry on sulking. Also I'm in an LLU area but most of the sites say I'm not! So they won't connect me. I know I am because my exchange has almost every service known to man, I've checked it out.

Also, it's not initially you have problems with quotas, it's after a couple of months when they pick you up ......

It doubled my broadband speed. I pay for "Upto 24mb" and was getting just over 5mb. It now varies between 10mb - 12mb. I also get a Static IP address with my Broadband package. Costs me £22 a month with BeThere.co.uk
