Spend £3500 Auction>Recommend Best Car to Buy PS?

Hi can any of you guys help me in choosing a good reliable 1600 to 2000cc 4/5d HB preferred but saloons good. I dont want a low spec model as last car was a vx 2.2 CD so med - high spec if possible. It MUST be automatic. Budget is aprox 3k probably push it to £3.5k max CASH! I do have a 2001 Vectra CD 2.2 but the Timing chain went for the 2nd time and vx will not fix it or contribute to the repair costs.

ps:been offered a 2002 307 GLX peugeot for £3.5k (1k deposit rest finance) it has fdsh, 2 previous owners and 88k on clock. I know its a vx forum but any comments on these cars ps?

best to avoid peugeots, a bit tinny and cheap interiors dunno..

a ford focus ghia or astra cdx might do the job, both good cars 🙂

Thanks Guys! Its a 1600 engine. Ive had a look at past sales on ebay and the price seems preety cheap + 6mths warrantee thrown in! I know its a come down but hey! I was interested in a focus ghia but they are still quite expensive arent they ? Tnx

Got to agree with vocky mate I had a 206 it must have been the worst car I've ever had the dash was puke.. and the seats looked like my Grans setee also hated the rear torsion bar trying to get it lowered was a nightmare don't know about the newer 307s etc but the build quality was a joke!!!

My Dad had a 1.6 307......only had the car 2 months, and got rid of it. Totally underpowered, as it's quite a heavy car, and because of this, fuel consumption was quite high as well

I had a 406 for a year, it was reliable but the seats were awful and the panels were so thin :?

I do like the look of the 307, but they are just not well built 🙁

Every Pug I've driven I've always found the clutch pedal to be really heavy as well

only peugeot i've had is a 306 s16 and it's the best fun ive ever had. tuned to 200bhp, it flew! i'd still of had it now if the bottom end hadn't gone.

as for the 307, nice little motors although i'd go for the tdi over the 1.6 petty, as matt says very underpowered, due to the size of the car.

I used to be upto date with all the prices and what cars were the best but now i aint got a clue! It seems ebay has put up the prices of used cars and theres no bargains out there!

                            Any ideas what i should get for £3.500 budget?
