is this oil ok?

I've been given some VAUXHALL LONGLIFE 5w-40 SYNTHETIC PLUS is this ok to use in my 2.2?

Also does oil have a use by date?

Not sure mate, I am sure someone will know. I just use the standard oil Vauxhall give me when I ask them for it. As for a best before date I don't think oil goes off notsure.gif 🙂

Don't think oil has a use by date.

I use semi synthetic which is 10-30 I also use full synthetic which is 5-30, both are genuine vauxhall oils and both are suitable for use in your car. I use the full synthetic in my 2.2 coupe and the semi synthetic in my 87 cavalier.

There always seems to be some question as to if you should use a semi-synthetic oil in an old engine. I was going to swap to semi-synthetic in my 2.0 GLSi Cavalier but was strongly advised not to by a Vauxhall Technician.

yep,i have heard the same, but i got the oil really cheap and as i only do about 1500 miles each year in it and then change it I couldn't see what harm it could do.

Do you know what the problem could be, is it that the oil is too thin and the old engines are built to wider tolerances therefore the oil burns off quicker???
