laptop to tv ?

right i have tried to get my laptop to work through my tv with not much luck 🙁

i can get the desktopto apear on the tv but it does look a bit cramped ?

but when i open up the internet it just opens up and then goes off the screen to the left ?
so i cant see it on my tv but i can on my laptop ?

any ideas guys it must be just one setting somwhere i reckon but not sure where lol

i have a packard bell lap top with a samsung le32r8 tv.connecting via vga

How are you setting the desktop emulation on the TV? Are you spreading the desktop over the 2 screens, having it just on the TV, or having it replicated on both the TV and the Laptop?

either

Clone or extended view?
Also what resolution have you got the laptop running at i have seen this with some widescreen laptops maybe worth knocking it down to 1024*768

im not sure how i do it to be honest lol

all i did was set the laptop to 1360x768 on screen 2 ?

can u talk me through what i need to do me and laptops dont work that well as you know matt 😃

By the sounds of it, you've got the graphics card running at a resolution that your TV can't handle. My TV will only taken 1024x768, and that it makes it wide screen itself.

I don't know how you'd do it on your laptop, as each chipset is different

right i have now done it 😃

im typing this on my tv well on the screen on the tv 😃

now my next question to do this my screen on my lap top has gone off ?
bassicly what i did was to makle monitor 2 my main mointer and extend the mointer onto this screen is this right ?

so when i want to use the laptop screen again i just untick this 2 setting on screen 2 and tick them on screen 1 ?

also what cable do i need so i can get sound running from my pc to the tv ?

For sound on mine, I use this cable

One end (Laptop)

Other end (TV)

any ideas on name of it and do you use the headphone socket on your laptop for that ?

Yeah, plugs straight into the headphone jack on the laptop.Can't remember the name, but you can get them from Currys, Dixons etc for about £5

That sound cable is 3.5mm jack to phono.

To get your image back on your monitor on your laptop and on your TV you just need to toggle.

If you use your hot keys on the laptop normally around the F4 / F8 key you will see a picture of a monitor or it will say CRT/LCD

Just hold down the function key and keep pressing normal it goes output to TV no signal laptop press again signal to TV & laptop and third to go back just to laptop.

RIGHT I GOT THE LEAD FOR THE SOUND TODAY AND CONNECTED IT UP BUT NO SOUND ON TV ANY IDEAS ?SAME LEAD AS YOU HAVE MATT?

It might not actually work then Gaz, as the TV when connected to the Laptop/PC via VGA is just a big monitor. Does it say anything in the instruction manual for the TV about getting the sound working? Might end up having to go through something external like a stereo/surround sound, as thats how I ran mine
