Capacitors - do they work?

I have installed a ten inch sub and a set of components in my vx over the weekend, using a 4x125W rms amp

Sounds amazing, but at higher volumes the lights dim a bit with the bass notes

Do capacitors really work, or are there alternatives I should be looking at?

Cable thick enough guage and direct to the battery via a fuse?

4 x 125w asian watts aint much really about the equivalent to British 4x 25w.
Caps should work in a DC environment in such a way they will provide enough current for the highs and replenish as such on the lows acting as storage. Work great in proper hifi it can take as much as it needs.
Other explanation is it is already drawing more current/amperage than the battery is capable of. ie voltage drops on other equipment, a cap should work to smooth out.

the vx220 battery is a little on the small side :roll:

capacitors are designed to store electricity and provide a smooth voltage in the circuit they are connected too dunno..

I'm running a 4x150 RMS Fusion amp on twin 12" JBL subs. The amp is bridged for the 2 subs. I've not had any trouble with my lights dimming until recently when I found that the battery was worn out.

capacitors are fitted so that you get a better bass response, instead of drawing power from the battery it gets power quicker form the capacitor thus giving better bass.

It's louder than I'll ever want, and it's only on two-thirds input level on each stereo channel

Looks like a cap is the way forward then! The battery is fairly new (and car starts fine etc), I don't think I'd be able to get a bigger one in - I went one size up when I replaced it

Power caps dont work. Fully charge a cap and connect a light bulb to the terminals. How long does it stay lit. Imagine with an amp at 1000 watts. A bigger battery and TB3 is a better investment.

they do work!! i've got a 2.8 farad ledacy on my system which has 1x2400w in-phase amp running 2x 12" alpine type r's and a 800w jbl amp running my dual components front n back. i've never had a shortage of power and the lights dont dim. i used to have that porblem before i got the cap when i was only running 1 sub. my mate dosen't have 1 and ruined his battery and alternator with his 2 subs
