Cam chain replacement?

Hi all,

Recently got myself a 2001 vectra sri and having some concerns as regards the cam chain after reading so many stories of the chain snapping without warning.

It's approaching 70k, clean with full history etc. and VX say that my car isn't affected (hmmmm) and I also contatced a local dealer who said they had never heard of such a problem with this engine, but I'm sure plenty of people on here would beg to differ!

Basically I'm looking for some opinion as to whether its would be wise to replace it now with the upgraded kit, a bit of preventative maintenance?

I think youres will be one of the ones that is effected.. As mine was and its a 2001 and the veccy i had was a 2002..

Where abouts are you based??

After a bill for £1300... I wish I had changed mine earlier.

yep, get it done... look for a chap called benny on this site. a lot of people have had him change theres. then you know its done.

adie2.2 I reckon I will give benny a shout, seems to be highly recommended. I think I read he's based in Wolverhampton? Bit of a trek but will be worth it for piece of mind! Like I said, I contacted a VX garage and they basically acted like I had two heads, kind of "yeah, we can replace the chain... but why on earth would you want to do that?"

Makes you wonder!!

Mine is getting done tommorrow (Monday) by a local guy i will let you know how much he charges openwindow if you want as i live in Keith not far from you. I did get all my bits myself through the trade club though. cheers..

cheers for the input guys, got it booked in to be replaced so hopefully it'll be all good after that.

Its been a bit rough at idle too, not sure if that's related to a slack chain!

I had my EGR blanked the other day and that solved my rough idle (already had my chain done)

Mine was a bit rough on the idle as well but the chain change has sorted this out now also running Fully Synthetic Vauxhall Oil now and the EGR is away to get done away with too :razz:
