Electrical crackling

Morning gents,

I have a VX220 which is currently tucked away in the garage for the winter months. I started her up the other day as I had done the Fuel Pressure mod and blanked off the EGR valve. Started fine and ran fine but for a short period of time I could hear a cracking (like an electrical arc sound) at regular intervals. Disappeared after a minute or so but just wondered if anyone might know what it is making the noise?

I have noticed it before but then was taking it out to drive and just figured it was a new VX220 type noise of which there are many!!! 😃

Any help greatly appreciated. cheers..

You did'nt remove the battery by any chance dunno.. you might have a loose connector, just a thought dunno..

Nope, and the VX battery is at the front with the engine in the back. Noise def coming from engine bay... Any more thoughts people?

possibly a dodgy alternator or water in the sparkplug holes dunno..

Well it doesn't live outside so shouldn't be affected by water ingress too badly. Will take the DIS pack off and check the plugs though! It's obviously on a common issue then, will have to get some pipe to see if i can hear where it is coming from!!

Does it seem to come from over your right shoulder? almost like a relay opening closing? :?

Doesn't really sound like a relay to be honest, I will try and get a recording of the noise. It sounds more like an electrical short or something :s
