Problem....

WEnt up to see my grandaughter today,bout a 40 mile drive....half way there noticed a squeak/tinnny noise coming from the front right wheel....not so bad wen driving straight,goes when on a left bend and worse wen on a right....squeak also goes wen apllying the brake....so got to my destination and the o/s/f wheel,disc and caliper are boiling hot....so let it kool down for afew hrs and took a steady drive home,got half way and the squeak started again....

My intial thoughts are the wheel bearing fubbered,but wot throws me is the brake on that side getting way too hot....

sounds like your caliper is sticking or seized.
the pads are not clearing the disc and dragging as it rotates thus the heat build up is quick due to the nature of brakes(friction obviously).
probably needs stripping down and the sliders cleaning up regreasing and may be worth bleeding the brakes as there will have been possible boiling of the fluid.

may also be worth having a dam good look at your tyre and flexi hose because of the heat

Everythings as it shud be m8...discs are like new,pad like new,hoses are braided ones....but as you say it does sound like sticky caliper....but in all fairness it does sound like dry bearing ,hence the squeeking...and when cornering it aggrevates the problem...

could be messy.

well i would do a quick strip on the caliper first as it's quite easy and should not take to long and whlst it is split or bits are out give them a good clean and lube. obviously if you do one side then personally i would do the other then you know for sure it has been done.
failing that then it may be the bearing being dry. if the front of the car is jacked up try and spin the wheel and check for play. usually a dry bearing shows itself by a droneing noise from previous experience.
after that if you are none the wiser notsure.gif but still think that the bearing is dry, get a price for replacement and get it done. 😃
if you have the facilities and can do it yourself then go for it but again from experience in the past once one goes the other side follows on shortly after so i would do both sides in a single hit,

Gonna sort it out after work on monday...cant have it breaking down on me lol...so tha'll be 2 x new bearing and a service of the brakes.....plus if theres anything up i need to fix it b4 the mot....cant have me failing my own car now can i lol....

never know they may come in useful sometime. :lol:

WEll got the car on the ramp early this morning.....jacked the old girl up..and cudnt turn the o/s/f wheel....so off it came removed caliper and the blighter was seized solid....so no messing ordered new one from vx, £42 l8r and all seems well....

Cudnt leave it silver so had to have the blue treatment....

TBh i didnt notice it binding when driving...was only drawn to the prob wen it started squeaking....Must be all the power i got lol......I tried all my contacts for a caliper and no-one cud match vx's price....
