Laptop probs....

My sony vaio is long overdue for a clean install...so thouhgt...put xp disc in drive and boot....wrong...

Get to the setup is checking sysytem and then the screen goes blank....

so thought maybe its summat sonys put onthe harddrive...so removed it plugged it into my pc and set about formatting it....

put back in and its still the same....

any ideas chaps....

Is that the disc that came with the laptop? It could be better to use that one.

its the same wether i use the recovery discs that came with it or any other xp i have...

Tried scandisk? Could be faulty hard drive

cant even boot into wndows now....and i cant get xp to install....

i would put the laptop hdd into your desktop as before and scan disc it or alternatively google for disc check utilities. :?
also you may want to check that it was 'plugged in' correctly when you refitted it to the laptop. it is easy to bend the pins if the drive is ide.
failing that it is possible that the optical drive is faulty or the lens may be dirty, (you could try the hdd in your desktop. put the xp disc in the optical drive, unplug your other drives(of if you know how to install leave them connected)and boot from the cd. ensure you select to install onto the laptop drive from the selection as reqd. if the xp copy installs onto the hard drive then you will know that this is fine and hopefully narrow down your snags,
hope you have luck with it as when they don't work as you wish it is a pain in the ass.........
failing that find a good computer freek/nerd and let them loose, cheers..

Thats exactly the same issue I had with my old Laptop Daz, got the exactly the same point and hung on the install. I ended up having to buy a new harddrive and re-install on that.

Spot on matt.....just found an old 2gb 2.5" hd that i had lying about....nailed it into the laptop and windows is installing....

I did si...read that in work 2day...forgot to pm back tho ooppps....Goin to take the hard drive outta my car pc for the time bein,as i dont use it that much now....but thanks for the offer anyhow m8... 🙂
