Can remaps be wiped?

I've been fitting the 2.4 manifold on and off during the last week and left the battery disconnected during this time. Yesterday was the first time I've driven it with bother manifold ans 2.4 tb but within about 3 miles it spat the dummy. I popped the 2.2 tb on and tried it today. After about 15 miles of gentle driving I gave it a bit more, gradually building up.

The car seems to pull perfectly well but it looks like the rev limiter has moved back to its original 6800 limit, whereas before it was 7000 (TMS stage 3) Is it likely that the old map has been wiped due to the prolonged period that the car has sat? If this is the case I'm guessing the only solution is to have it remapped?

Are they really :? It's weird, with the new manifold it doesn't sound like it's revving as hard as it used to. Would it be that the extra air coming in causes it to sound more throaty, so reduces the buzzyness compared to the 2.2?

I didn't notice any dramatic changes in power. Previously the step at about 5000 was really noticeable but now it seems alot smoother, is that a trait of the 2.4 manifold?

the 2.4 manifold seems to respond better to a standard map, remapped cars seem to need another remap notsure.gif

Once a car has been remapped, it will stay that way until over written. If Tech 2 was to be plugged in and then a software update downloaded to the ECU, this would then wipe out any mapping that you had done previously.

A map is basically a program which the car runs on. Once the OE map has been overwritten its gone for good. This is why Superchips will give you a backup copy of your OE map on a special 'Chip' key just in case you ever need to revert back to standard.

I didn't recieve any 'chip' whan I bought the car, so does that mean I'm tied to TMS for remaps? I read somewhere that they offer free software upgrades on their remaps. I wonder if that applies to same car, different owner situations, hmmmmmmmm.

Should I have got a "superchips" remap from somewhere. I would demand the key from the supplier as you have paid for that aswell as the "remap"

Mind you I'm sure if you have a mate at a vauxhall dealership then you could get them to Tech2 it back to std for you.

I've got 2 chip keys. The first from my original Superchips map. That was a mobile franchise dealer that came to my house and the other from when Courtenay mapped the car. So I have a OE map on chip and a Superchips map on the other.

Ok. That is the customer key. It is linked to your ECU (based on the VIN I think). You need it to be able to write to the ECU. If you have one, anyone with an Superchips/EVC based SPI system can read/write your ECU. It does not contain any software.
