Superchip or Remap?

Simply as that, which one do i go for?

Im not big on engine tuning lke some of you on here, but like all of you, i want more power from my 22se.

Only mods so far to the engine are,

pipercross filter
de-restricted box
and veccy c pipe.

Ive seen all these inlet mods (2.4 manifold, and port the tb) but i doubt il do anything like that to the engine. so this is as far as it goes. but....

I do want one of the above.

But which do i go for?

You really need to decide if you are going to do any other mods really. Other wise a remap will be a bit of a waste.

I persoanlly would go for a live re-map. This weill make the most of your mods specific to how your car runs. It all depends on your location and budget most tuners offer stanadard generic maps or live remaps. Superchips is just one company which offer maps to tuners.

You wont see that much of a BHP imporovemt with a map it will just smooth out the power.

I am sure Vocky or another tech will be along to confirm what i have put.

i wont be doing anymore mods engine wise. which is why im just thinking of mapping it now.

i would love to do all this manifold porting, and tb and the rest of it. but after modding my old enigne (x14xe with 115bhp - proven), i dont want to do much to this one to keep it reliable.

i see throney motorsport are claiming 12bhp, and 20llbft torque in their remap. at a very good price too

or it this just 'pub talk' claims?

A re-map is pointless without any other mods. A decent exhaust setup is a must.

a remap only improves throttle response, top end power stays similar, midrange shows the gains.

a ported tb gives the same results on a standard(ish) engine dunno..

so youre just saying to save my £300, and port a tb instead to see pretty much the same gains??

As to the title of this thread, Superchips is a remap. Chipping is a thing of the past now on modern cars like ours. A generic program from 'Superchips' is downloaded by an agent such as a Superchips franchise to your ECU through the OBD port on your car from a laptop. It flashes the ECU with the new parameters and away you go. Tuners such as Courtenay Sport can fine tune the maps further on the Rolling Road.

Live mapping is the latest thing by where your car is tested on the rolling road and the information is downloaded from your ECU to a laptop and then the map is altered and tuned uniquely to your engine and then the new program is put back onto your ECU.

RR day at TMS as you can see Stage 2 remapped cars show 3/4 hp gains
