No, he's telling the truth. There have been a couple of threads about this model on Astra Owners Club.....having a look now

Vauxhall made the GSi non turbo only on a S reg before re-branding it the SRi and taking away some of the power and electrics, such as electric mirrors. rest assured this is NOT an import, and IS a GSi.

well i say it neva bin a gsi might say it on logbook BUT that just take n the p1ss out of gsi's looks note like one !!! Y has a gsi with none turbo i say ??? no gsi kit puke..

That was how Vauxhall released it, it then was re-badged to the SRI. Probably an initial continuation of the GSI label from the MK3, and then changed when the dropped the Z20LET engine in there
