marcus Hi all bought this astra sri with busted engine started taking it apart guess what i found. The funny thing about it this was a new engine from vauxhall it hasn't even done 2500 miles yet the bloke let it run dry of oil so not covered by warranty.but i got at bargain price.So might need a bit of help with this one as i dont no much about this engine.
vocky classic low oil conrod failure :roll: you need a new engine 🙁 you can sell the cams and maybe a few other bits, but that one is scrap 🙁
marcus Hi vocky got a new bottom end,the head has 4 bent valves so just going to replace bent valves and have head skimmed unless it would be cheaper with hole engine i dont no.got the new bottom end with the car when i bought it.
JohnnyN Well all I can say about that is...... DAMN!! That is what's known in engineering terms as f*cked! Get looking on ebay. There's one for sell on there at the moment. :roll:
JohnnyN I would have thought that the bore would be gashed to bits!! It definately looks like a scrapper.
marcus Hi you'se no better than me on this engine chapsi have the paper work with the milege when this engine was put in and yep it has only done 2500 miles the guy gave me the brand new bottom end with car. this will be the third engine this car has had since new its a 52 plate had 1 owner and has only 29000 miles on clock. The piston bore has a big gouge out of it didnt get pic of that it was getting dark out side but will get some tommorow and put on.
JohnnyN That would have to be a rebore or bore out and sleeve if they still do that sort of thing. You really need to consider another block.
Daz Surley there wud be a claim possibly with vauxhall.as an engine shudnt drink the sump dry and eject the con rod with only 2.5k on it....
JohnnyN Thing is though Daz, does the warranty only cover the owner at the time or would it stand for the new owner? dunno..
marcus Hi guys old owner tryed to claim vauxhall they took car into vauxhall garage that did the job there was no oil leaks from engine.So don't no if they put enough oil into engine to start of with or ir if there was a fault with the engine the just said the oil light was on one day he ran it to work and engine packed in on way home.That engine and labour cost him £3950 all in.Then i saw it in paper for sale and bought it.The first engine that was in it he hit a speed bump to fast and busted the sump he ended snapping something inside engine thats all he said about about first engine.
JohnnyN Fap me! This car sounds like a heap of bad luck mate. Don't bother with a new engine, a can of petrol and some matches are the best route. pmsl..

vocky if you look closely at the block it's cracked :shock: if the head has no damage then re-use it 🙂 also remember to use a new chain or the old chain might still be ok dunno.. it will be a nice car when you have finished 8)
JohnnyN That's the shame of it Neil, I have to agree, the car looks very nice. Once its all sorted it'll be as good as new with some time and effort put into it. thumbup
vocky a lesson in there somewhere notsure.gif check your oil level, it only needs to drop below the minimum to cause the con rod failure seen above :shock:
marcus Hi guys yes its the orignal mileage not been clocked when the guy blew the first engine it was parked up in his garage and left for a couple off years before he had the second engine put in mate and i have all mot's and paperwork for i,will get some pics of the head today and put them up so far timming chain looks fine its only done 2500 miles but you never no what you might find down bottom,if it needs replaced i will do it i dont mind spending money on the car as it does look good.
