I LIKE MY CAR, BUT WHY??????????

I bought my car last january from auction..
I gave £3000 for it plus auctioneers cost £3200.
Its a late 2003 astra 2.2 SRI .111000 k with full VXSH.
One lease company owner with a little ding on the door otherwise its mint well part from the alloys

It lasted me 3 weeks before i killed it......RIP.SRI...... I wacked it down through the box (bit of engine braking) (as you do) and she exploded.one of the rods tried to escape through the side of the block OUCH !
My ego was damaged (two girls in the car) (i know nker) and my wallet was going to go into shock !
I bought a Z22YH by mistake (obhead) well it looked like by the time i had drove to Dudley from s yorks,but anyway, bought another one from Bolton £750 ouch ! and chucked it in,not the easiest re-fit i have ever done (come back mk2 escorts and cortina,s and capri,s)
So anyway i have been running it now since last january and its been ok she goes really well and i really like driving it !!!!! Apart from the steering is just toooooo light at speed AND electric steering pump when did this all happen,been in the trade years but WHAT !!! Electric I feel like a dinosaur...
It has a strange power band about 3500 to 4000 i like but ???? i want it there all the time not wait untill it gets to four k, 2 k would be much better.

BUT THE BIG BIG BIG PROBLEM IS WHY DO I LIKE THIS CAR????
I JUST DO NOT TRUST IT ANYMORE(THE OLD BLACK TOPS AND REDS TOOK SOME HAMMER) ... but i am just scared again of giving some va va vx voom...
WHEN you find out they are like hens teeth to get hold of alarm bells start ringing either there a great engine, and nothing goes wrong with them,hence short fall in the breakers, OR they are a load of rubbish that they all explode leaving a shortfall in the breakers yard,tell me different you guys know more than me,what sort of driving can these handle?????
I like the car its bog standard, i might do a tweak at somepoint but im usually in my sprinter and would rather boost the van than the car.so i will get round to it at somepoint,might just go for the CAT,AIR,and PLUGS,unless you can advise more better but i don,t wanna kill it again HELP cryb..

By the sound of how you drive you need a Toyota with a Turbo. The engines are bomb proof and the turbo will keep you happy!

The only problems that i've come across on this site with engine failures are thru' the timing chain breaking. Other than that the engines are solid. As for the F23 Getrag gearbox, thats a tried and tested gearbox thats been used for MANY years and they are also strong. If you are going to abuse the engine and box beyond its capabilites then you are going to have problems. You mentioned that your car had 111k on the clock. Even with full Vx service history it doesn't mean that the engine components are going to last for ever. And we all know that lease hire cars are treated like dogs from the day that they are leased.

The z22se is a good strong engine as long as the chain is in good condition. I prefer it to most of the other Vauxhall engines any day. The only problems I have ever had with the gear box is first thing in the morning it's a little stiff to select gear. Once warm it's mint 🙂. The z22se engine can take some stick, but make sure you know the chain is in good condition.

i agree, the gear is a stiff in the mornings and after a couple of minutes..smooth...

.111000 might cum 2 mind??? lets just say seen better days hey ! these engines arnt 2 bad! get them worm then give them a bit of stick 😃 the stiff gears well wot vauxhall aint wen its cold vauxhall say 1L of normal gearbox oil and the rest autogear box oil did it in my old astra mint that was wen i did that!! give it ago ! 😃

i love my astra coupe looks nice nowt chavvy i get the looks and goes really well even with cars you wouldnt expect. reliability side this year i have had my car rite to the top and rite to the bottom of the country and not one problem so far, touch wood
